We are saddened by the loss of our leader Lee Gluckman Jr., chairman of Mobius Awards and US International Film & Video Festival. Lee passed away August 17 after a brief illness. His presence was larger than life. One of his special joys was traveling internationally to meet with entrants. For the past several years he had tried to meet personally with all of the Mobius Best of Show and the Best of Festival winners for the US International Film & Video Festival, until Covid-19 prevented travel.
In addition to operating the advertising and film competitions, Lee was a member of the International Quorum of Motion Pictures Producers and the International Documentary Association. He also served as president of The International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals (CIFFT), Vienna, Austria, and operated Producers Group Ltd., which he founded in 1967 in Chicago and later relocated to Los Angeles.
Lee also was Chief Negotiator (Producers) with SAG and AFTRA (The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) for all Non-Broadcast Talent Contracts and consulted on talent and film industry contracts.
Lee had friends everywhere and their tributes are nourishing us. Here is a sampling:
Lee was a fine fellow, a real “mensch ” as they say in Yiddish, a man of integrity and wisdom in human relations. I shall not forget him, he will live in our memory. A little stone on his grave, for me – Georges Pessis, Orange, France.
I had the opportunity to meet Lee in different festivals around the world and he was always such a pleasant and delightful company to be around. He will be truly missed. The entire Amorgos Tourism Film Festival team would like to send you our deepest and most sincere condolences and let you know that we keep you and your family in our hearts and prayers. — Irene Giannakopoulos, Festival Director
With great sadness, I received the news about the disappearance of Lee. He was always there for me when I needed his advice. – Alexander Kammel, President of Filmservice International / Director CIFFT
My prayers and thoughts are with you during this very difficult time. This is such sad unexpected news. I will say that I am still grateful to Lee for the opportunity he gave me when I was starting out in the business. I had a wonderful introduction to the business during the author film series. — Gayle Seminara Mandel, Executive Director, AME Awards / New York Festivals
